“Out Damn spot”: Shakespeare for kids

For the last two months, my daughter’s school have had the privilege of working together with professional playwright, show producer, director and all round theatrical genius, Tim Wilcock. He has been coming in and volunteering to produce no less than three Shakespeare plays, with primary six and seven aged children .

They are doing adaptations of Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and … wait for it, Macbeth. Aliyah’s class is doing the latter and if you know my daughter, there will be no prizes for guessing what part she’s got. Lady that she is.

Aliyah’s class have also spent time composing their own music to go with the play and are performing it themselves.

I am just about to watch an excerpt of the play and the music at the local high school concert.

Yes, yes I’m excited. And it would be safe to assume I may be writing one or two more posts about this in the coming days.

Just in case you haven’t guessed, Aliyah is Lady Macbeth.
